WHY WOULD I JOIN?
If you’re looking for a reason to join the yacht club here are a few that might apply:
You want to join a great group of people who enjoy all forms of sailing from small dinghies to one-design racing to cruising
You want to have fun on and off the water
You’ve bought a sailboat and need somewhere to keep it
You’ve bought a sailboat and are looking for some assistance to help you get it ready for the water
You’d like to race your boat but aren’t sure how to get started
You see all of the sailboats out on Lake Winnebago on beautiful summer days and want to be part of it
You want to improve your sailing skills
You’d like to cruise to other destinations on Lake Winnebago along with like-minded skippers and their families
You like to get together with other sailors at various parties and social events
It's an incredible bargain. The cost for a membership for a family and a mooring for a boat less than 26' long is only $345 at 2009 rates. Try to beat that anywhere else on the lake and don't even try most other places in the state.
Contrary to some popular stereotypes of “yachties” the members of NNYC are not a group of wealthy, cliquish individuals who lounge around on expensive sailboats and are not friendly to newcomers. In fact our membership is as diverse as you could imagine. Our membership includes machinists, engineers, computer analysts, small business owners, pilots, lawyers, doctors, and a sprinkling of retired folks. And I would defy you to identify who is who at a typical NNYC event or by looking at the boats they sail.
We all come together for the sheer enjoyment of sailing: preparing for it, doing it, strategizing about it, cleaning up when we’re done with it, and reminiscing about it.
Come join us. We’re a great group.
